On March 5, the Wey brand announced that Great Wall chairman Wei Jianjun has personally become the ambassador of the new V9X crossover. A poster with the boss and a novelty was released for the announcement. And then the users felt deja vu.
The poster suspiciously resembled the Range Rover Sport banner for the Chinese market. Moreover, the similarity was such that Wei himself instantly recognized the plagiarism and publicly apologized to Land Rover, the designer and the entire Network. But the story turned out to be a big one, and interest in the Wey V9X in China has grown dramatically. It was probably a publicity stunt.
By the way, this is not the first GWM scandal. In 2021, Volkswagen's lawyers noticed that the Ora Punk Cat looked suspiciously like a Beetle. And in 2019, Land Rover's chief designer Andy Will philosophically remarked:
"it's unpleasant to copy, but it's nice that we're recognized as the best."
