Great Wall Motor has announced a diesel version of the popular body-on-frame SUV, the Tank 500, for the Thai market.
Under the hood of the Tank 500 DSL is a powerful 2.4-liter diesel engine, familiar to Russian drivers from the Haval H9. It delivers 184 hp and 480 Nm of torque starting from 1,500 rpm. The transmission is a 9-speed automatic with all-wheel drive.
Visually, the diesel Tank resembles the hybrid version but with some changes — the spare wheel is mounted under the chassis, and the body is finished in stylish all-black, similar to the Blacktrail edition.
The SUV’s dimensions are impressive:
- Length — 4,886 mm, width — 1,934 mm, height — 1,905 mm;
- Wheelbase — 2,850 mm;
- Ground clearance — 224 mm.
The interior features modern technology — a 14.6” touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, head-up display, and comfort for rear passengers.
Prices have not been officially disclosed, but the diesel version is expected to be nearly a quarter cheaper than the hybrid, around 1.7 million baht (~4.13 million rubles). Additionally, GWM is developing a new 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine, which will soon be available in the Tank 500, Tank 700, and the Shanhai Poer pickup.
